Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County Launches Grandparent Legal Project

West Palm Beach, FL — In June 2003, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc. through a grant from the State of Florida, Department of Elder Affairs and the Area Agency on Aging Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, Inc. established the AGrandparents Raising Children Legal Project@ to provide legal advice and representation to grandparents (aunts, uncles, etc) over 60 years of age who are care givers for their minor grandchildren (nieces, nephews, etc). The legal services provided by this program are designed to assist with the unique legal problems faced by senior care givers. Legal Aid will be offering assistance with issues such as custody, guardianship, public benefits, access to health care, housing and educational needs of minor children. Another important area which the project will address is end of life planning issues associated with the seniors role as care giver.
