Pro Bono Recognition Evening a Resounding Success

West Palm Beach, FL — On May 15, 2004, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, together with the Sun Sentinel/WB39 Children's Fund and the Palm Beach County and South Palm Beach County Bar Associations hosted the 16th Annual Pro Bono Recognition Evening at the Cohen Pavilion of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The theme of the evening was "Justice & Jesters" and over 750 individuals attended the event which netted over $170,000. All funds generated by the evening will benefit the disadvantaged children, families and elders served by Legal Aid and the children served by the Sun Sentinel/WB39 Children's Fund.

Honored at the event were the following Palm Beach County attorneys: Peter S. Broberg (Guardianship Law Award); Patricia M. Christiansen (Elder Law Award); Philip M. DiComo (Non-Profit Law Award); Douglas Duncan (Criminal Law Award); James S. Elkins (And Justice for All Award); Ellen S. Malasky (Family Law Award); Frank J. McKeown, Jr. (Employment Law Award); Elisha D. Roy (Child Advocacy Award); Julie H. Littky-Rubin (Appellate Law Award); Cara Sansonia (Housing Law Award) and Terry P. Verduin (Disability Law Award). The non-attorney award recipient was State Representative Susan Bucher (Community Service Award). Entertainment was provided by comedian, Drew Sattee and emcee, Bill Bone, Esq.

The Legal Aid Society provides free legal representation and education to over 6,000 disadvantaged children, families, elders and individuals annually through its Family Advocacy, Children's Advocacy, Elder Advocacy, Health Advocacy and Individual Rights Advocacy projects. Legal Aid's services are available throughout Palm Beach County.

The Sun-Sentinel/WB39 Children's Fund, a fund of the McCormick-Tribune Foundation, provides grants to nonprofit organizations in South Florida that help low income children and families. Since the inception of the Fund in 1991, more than $20 million in grants have been made to local nonprofit organizations.
