Pro Bono Recognition Evening a Resounding Success
West Palm Beach, FL (May 29, 2002) On May 11, 2002, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, together with the Palm Beach County, South Palm Beach County and Hispanic Bar Associations hosted the 14th Annual Pro Bono Recognition Evening at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The theme of the evening was "Broadway" and over 900 individuals attended the event which netted over $177,000 for Legal Aid's 16 projects. All funds generated by the evening are used to provide free legal assistance to the disadvantaged children, families and elders residing in Palm Beach County.
Honored at the event were the following Palm Beach County attorneys: Jayne Regester Barkdull (Community Service Award), Richard Bartmon (Appellate Law Award), Robert Bergin (Civil Litigation Award), Warren Brams (Child Advocacy Award), Steven Greenberg (Cultural Arts Award), John Kovarik (Family Law Award), Joseph Nusbaum (Juvenile Advocacy Law Award), Jack Orsley and Steven Cripps (Law Firm Award) and Kenneth Spillias (Employment Law Award). The non-attorney award recipients included: Mereline Brown, Professional Guardian (AIDS Advocacy Award), David Ellrich, CPA (Special Service Award) and Mark Rubenstein, M.D., (Special Service Award).
Entertainment was provided by students from the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Olympic High School and celebrity attorney performers.
Founded in 1949, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc. is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the cause of providing equal access to the justice system for all of Palm Beach County's underprivileged residents.
