Attorney Maxine Williams who was honored by Florida Children First, Inc. for her contributions in advocating for the rights of children in the foster care system. Maxine, a staff attorney in Legal Aid's Juvenile Advocacy Project, successfully argued an appeal before the Florida Supreme Court in 2004 that resulted in the trial courts retaining final authority over the best interests of children in adoption proceeding, and she recently represented a teenage girl whose right to an abortion was rescinded by DCF.

Bob Bertisch for his 25 years of service as the Legal Aid Society's Executive Director. Legal Aid's board of directors recently honored Bob for taking the organization from five employees and a budget of $180,000 in 1980 to a staff of 85 who, with a budget of $5.8 million, handle 1400 cases in-house each year and serve almost 6,000 people through representation, education and training.

Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County for receiving the 2005 Professionalism Award for a law firm or organization. Congratulations to fellow award recipients Sid Stubbs (Individual Award) of Jones, Foster, Johnston & Stubbs, and Judge Lucy Chernow Brown (Judicial Award).
